Woods Fuller's Impact at Bishop Dudley Hospitality House
According to a recent report, the number of homeless people in the city of Sioux Falls increased almost 20% in a one-year time frame. In January of 2024 the South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium conducted a statewide homeless count. They looked at the number of people on the streets or in shelters over a 24-hour period. In Sioux Falls, that number was 610.
It should be no surprise then that the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House in Sioux Falls is at capacity almost nightly, and the shelter must turn families away every single day.
"Being part of the Bishop Dudley House board has allowed me to directly impact our downtown community and offer support where it's most needed. It's a commitment to making downtown a better place, especially for those who face the most challenges. This work is about more than just charity; it's about creating a stable, supportive environment for some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” says Woods Fuller Shareholder Vince Jones.
Vince has served on the Board for the shelter for nine years. During that time he has also served as president. "My work with Bishop Dudley not only fulfills a personal commitment to give back but also aligns with my professional ethos of problem-solving and community involvement. It’s about doing something tangible that has a real impact on people’s lives."
The Bishop Dudley Hospitality House opened its doors in 2015 and has sheltered 465 families and 1,030 children. To help meet that need, the Bishop Dudley Center for Families will open this summer, to help move families find shelter until they can get transitioned into more permanent house.
Vince is just one example of the many attorneys and staff who dedicate their time, talent, and financial support to community organizations. As a firm, Woods Fuller is committed to giving back and creating an impact that improves our world.
