It is with much sadness that Woods, Fuller, Shultz, and Smith recognize the passing of Merle Johnson on October 8, 2020.

Merle attended Sioux Falls College and the University of South Dakota, earning his law degree in 1955. Following graduation, Merle joined Woods Fuller, and practiced business and corporate law, civil litigation, and specialized in estate planning later in his career.

Merle was a member of the State Bar of South Dakota and a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Planning Council. His favorite legal cause was helping families with adoptions.

He held leadership positions with the Woodlawn Cemetery Association, the American Baptist Homes of the Midwest, First Baptist Church, Christian Legal Society, Christian Counseling Services, the Elks and Kiwanis Clubs, and Southeastern Mental Health Center.

We are blessed to have worked with Merle. He will be missed as both a colleague and friend.
