Law Firm Commits to Help Find Solution to Veteran Homelessness

breaking ground on Veteran's Community Project

The goal is to eliminate veteran homelessness within the Sioux Falls area. The way it’s being approached is through a community of 25 tiny houses in the northwest part of the city. And Woods Fuller is proud and honored to support the Veterans Community Project (VCP).

This village of tiny houses is designed to serve as transitional housing for homeless veterans, and in some cases, their families. But it goes beyond just putting a roof over their head. While that is important in helping them feel safe and stable, eliminating their homelessness is the first step in helping them work on the underlying issues of homelessness.

VCP offers onsite wraparound case management services to help each veteran find self-sustainability. Each will work with a case manager on a unique and tailored plan which addresses health and wellness, income stability, education, training, and development of a personal support network. The end goal is for the veteran to eventually find a permanent housing solution.

“The phrase ‘a rising tide lifts all boats’ is applicable here, because no problem is too big in this community for us when we all unite and band together,” said Sioux Falls Mayor Paul Tenhaken in an informational video on the VCP website.

“Woods Fuller is grateful for the service of our veterans,” says Woods Fuller shareholder Heath Oberloh, who also serves on the VCP of Sioux Falls Advisory Board. “We believe in supporting organizations which make a real impact on the communities we call home, and we know this project will be a success. That’s why I volunteer and that’s why we’ve given financially to the project.”

The VCP Village in Sioux Falls is located at 376 N. Willow Avenue and construction has already begun on some of the first tiny houses.
