Woods Fuller Thanks Our Summer Law Associates
After three months of hard work and dedication, exploring the practice of law and areas that interest them the most, Woods Fuller says “goodbye and good luck” to another class of Summer Associates.
This summer the firm had four law students from the USD Knudson School of Law in Vermillion. Sidney Hardy, Connor McCormick, and Gabrielle Unruh are entering their final year of law school. Emalee Larson is heading to her second year.
The four were offered a variety of assignments over the summer to help further their education and guide their career paths.
“Not only did I choose to pursue a legal career because it will provide me with an opportunity to do the things I enjoy, but I ultimately chose to pursue a legal career because I want to help others accomplish their goals and pursue their dreams,” said Unruh. “Because of this, I am interested in exploring the estate planning practice area.”
The firm is organized into multiple practice groups: Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions; Litigation; Creditor Rights; Employment and Workers’ Compensation; Estate Planning, Probate and Tax Law; Family Law; Intellectual Property; Health Law; and Real Estate. Summer associates received assignments from these areas which included research and writing, drafting business agreements, interviewing witnesses, attending hearings, trials, depositions, and mediations.
“This summer I did a lot of legal research and writing. I had the opportunities to attend client meetings, depositions, and hearings at the Minnehaha Court House and I have learned more about the legal community in Sioux Falls,” stated Larson.
McCormick added, “I chose to apply and accept this internship position with Woods Fuller because I knew it would provide me a varied and in depth experience of the practice of law. I knew that whatever project I would be assigned to work on I would be working with intelligent and dedicated attorneys that would take an active role in my legal education.”
“I am grateful to Woods Fuller for giving me the best first introduction to the world of law in South Dakota. I am excited to finish my final year of law school with an enriched skill set and first hand experience into the practice of law,” added Hardy.
Woods Fuller is proud to offer this summer program to law students and grateful for the time, energy, hard work, and dedication each student brought with them each day. We wish each of them the very best in the upcoming school year and beyond.
