The New Administration and Immigration

Less than one week into a new Administration and it’s hard to know what all of it means for our country.

Executive orders. Press conferences. Social media. Word of mouth. What to believe? It’s a challenge any time we see a change in Washington, DC. And the answer is simply: We don’t know yet what it all means.

In the area of immigration and immigration law, so much has been “announced,” but what it all means is still to be determined.

We understand that this is a stressful time for many immigrants.  Things are evolving rapidly, and announcements don’t necessarily mean new policies. The best advice right now is to obtain your information from reliable sources and know your rights.

Woods Fuller attorney Amanda Bahena is monitoring the situation and will assist as the needs develop.

There are also a variety of in person events and online webinars which might be helpful. Please consider attending events from reliable sources or watching videos that will advise you on your basic rights. The National Immigration Justice Center, a national non-profit organization, has provided several free videos in English and Spanish at this website: https://immigrantjustice.org/know-your-rights . South Dakota Voices for Peace is another good resource: https://www.sdvfpeace.org/news-for-you.html .
