EXPERIENCE:
Tim Shattuck grew up on a farm in South Dakota and attended Augustana University in Sioux Falls. He attended law school at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. After completing a federal clerkship, Tim joined Woods Fuller law firm in 1994 as a litigator. He is the chair of the Intellectual Property Group.
While Tim has litigated a broad range of matters over the course of his career, he has developed expertise in several areas. Tim has handled many covenant not to compete for cases, representing employers and employees, in numerous states. He has represented clients in trade-secret lawsuits. Tim has also litigated multiple patent infringement disputes, for patentees and accused infringers, in several jurisdictions, including South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Texas. With South Dakota being a trust-friendly jurisdiction, Tim regularly litigates trust matters.
Tim has tried lawsuits to judges and juries in federal and state courts. He has appeared multiple times before the South Dakota Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Tim works with his clients to develop a plan and strategy that makes practical and economic sense for each particular case. He recognizes that some cases should be settled and that some must be tried. He understands that clients are entitled to prompt and thorough attention.
Tim is a member of the Defense Research Institute, the South Dakota Defense Lawyers Association, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
Tim has two children. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, traveling and watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team.
