EXPERIENCE:
Heather’s practice focuses on health care. With expertise in a wide variety of health law matters, Heather represents health care facilities, including community hospitals, physician-owned hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, office-based laboratories, as well as a wide range of physician practices covering multiple states and most medical specialties. She is widely recognized as the regional legal leader in health care law, including being recognized by Best Lawyers in the area of Health Care Law for almost two decades.
Heather is the chairperson of the Woods Fuller Health Law Team, and she represents the majority of community hospitals and physician groups in the region. Heather acts as general counsel for her health care clients. She helps them in all areas of legal compliance, including employment law. She develops long-term relationships with her clients and serves as a true partner in driving their success. Heather is selective about the clients she chooses to work with in order to provide focused legal partnership to her clients.
Heather has established a track record of success, which began in academics and has continued throughout her practice. She graduated first in her class from the University of Iowa. In 2006, she first was inducted into Best Lawyers in America for Health Care Law, where she has been recognized every year since, including her recognition as Lawyer of the Year in Health Care Law in 2022. In 2020, she was inducted into Best Lawyers in America for Employment Law - Management, where she continues to be recognized. She has also been recognized by Chambers USA as a leading attorney in Labor & Employment Law. Most important to Heather, however, is the trust of her clients who rely on her legal skills and thoughtful counsel to make critical business decisions and who continue to invite her to be a part of their ongoing success.
In her personal life, Heather is married to her husband Dave, who is a family practice physician, and they have four children together—three sons and a youngest (not at all spoiled) daughter.

“One of the things I enjoy about Woods Fuller is its commitment to the community, which is a value I share. We consider ourselves part of the community that we serve through our legal services in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa. I believe in serving and advocating for persons with disabilities and supporting other local organizations.”
